Colleen's Fancy:

Colleen’s Fancy are a Yorkshire based duo, singing all the well know Irish ballads and drinking songs just like you would expect to hear in a pub in Dublin or Galway. Singing all the popular Irish and Country numbers, they are always willing to do requests if asked for a song that they know, having a repertoire of over 700 songs and if there are any singers or musicians in the audience, there’s a good chance that they will be called up to join in with them on a couple of numbers.

Reviews:

Tonight was the first night of our Folk Club and I can honestly say that it was a success. John Stead was the compare and he did a great job fitting in all the singers who turned up. The Shivna Irish Dancers were fab and there was about 80 in the audience, so it is a good start and I am looking forward to the next night, which is going to be 1st. November. Hope you can all make it.

It was an absolutely family-like evening with lots of talented, enthusiastic and dedicated musicians from all around the villages. We had a really nice crowd and the atmosphere was just really really warm. Everyone who wanted to get on stage and perform something was welcome and got a lot of support by the audience.

We all didn't know, how it would be like but i think we all can be very satisfied with this evening, i can only say, that it exceeded all my expectations as i was first a bit of sceptical about how many people would come but we nearly filled the room, i counted more than 80 people, which is a really good number for the first evening. And allthough we had a big audience, It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. when someone sang a capella on stage.

So actually, this was one of the best experiences that I made during my time round here and I'm really looking forward to come back to the Folk Club ("shurely we will meet again", as the title song sais).

To experience live music in a pleasant location, and be entertained by talented artistes, is to be envied.. Locally we are blessed that we have the Keyingham Folk Club, and as of Thursday 4th October, we now have our own Withernsea based, Beggars Folk Club, at the Medridian Centre in Queen Street.
Kevin Young of Colleens Fancy, set up and ran the first night with passion and gusto. With many guest singers including the ever popular Morning Dew and Stoney Creek Boys. John Stead did sterling work as the compere, and Shivna Irish Dancers wowed us with their routine.
Nearly 100 people attended the first night of this venture, and sang and clapped along. The Meridian Centre proving to be an ideal location for this venture. Kevan Hough, the Mayor of Withernsea opened proceedings, while committee members ran a raffle.
If you missed this event, the next date on your calendar should be Thursday 1st Nov when Chris Claymore Greve, Celtic/Folk/Pop Singer from Canada will be entertaining us with his performance. The Green Ginger Garland Morris, a ladies folk dance team from Hull will share some of their dances with us. All singers and musicians welcome to perform.
